CCW APPLICATION TO OCSD
OCSD has introduced a new application portal to replace the Permitium system, which many of you are familiar with. To start or renew your CCW application, click here to go to the CCW-Pro portal. You can also visit the OCSD CCW page by clicking here. The application portal involves submitting information about yourself, including your address, firearms details, and proof of residence. You will also need to undergo a LiveScan background check (for which there is a specific form to take), and you will be interviewed by a member of staff in the CCW department. The training requirement for new applicants is 16 hours, and for renewal students it is 8 hours. Visit our CCW page for our CCW class schedule, and see below for more information on our modular E-Learning course, certificate of training, and reciprocity. For a helpful guide to registering in the new system, click here.
CCW LIVE FIRE QUALIFICATION
For each of your handguns the qualification is 24 rounds total, shot at a B-27 target at distances of 3 yards, 5 yards and 7 yards (8 rounds per distance).
CCW Certificate of Training
Once you have completed the live fire qualification shoot and completed your E-Learning (first time applicants only), you will need to complete your CCW certificate with all your details (name, drivers license number, dates of training, and all firearms info). Whether you are a first time applicant, a renewal applicant, or simply adding a firearm to an existing permit, contact us on info@artifexfirearmstraining.com and request the link to the PDF Filler webapp where you’ll prepare your certificate. Be sure to download/save a copy for yourself once you are ready to submit it. Artifex Firearms Training will examine the certificate for accuracy of personal information, firearms information and training dates, and confirm when you are clear to upload it to the OCSD CCW portal (CCW Pro).
If you wish to add a firearm to your permit, you can do this at any time by arranging to come to the range when one of our CCW instructors is there, and completing the short qualification shoot. Please note you do NOT have to requalify on an existing handgun if you have added/modified any of the following: cerakote, stippling, optics, color or grips.
E-LEARNING FOR FIRST TIME CCW APPLICANTS
As part of your classroom training you are required to complete our Kajabi-based E-learning course, which covers firearms safety, the fundamentals of good shooting, penal codes governing carriage of firearms in California, and an introduction to the use of lethal force in self defense. For access to the E-Learning modules please contact us if you do not automatically receive your link on booking your CCW class..
CCW RECIPROCITY
Although California does not recognize any other State CCW permit, there are a bunch of States that will recognize your CA CCW. The USCCA website offers a great reciprocity tool, so CLICK HERE to check that out. Next, decide if you want to maximize your reciprocity. In order to do that, you should consider applying for a non-resident CCW permit for Arizona, Utah and Florida. These are all “shall-issue” states, so you will be successful providing you pass their background check. Arizona’s Dept. of Public Safety will accept your Artifex training certificate, but you’ll have to do a separate course for Utah and Florida, and for each of these states you’ll need to submit fingerprint cards. For further information we’ve provided embedded hyperlinks for Arizona, Utah and Florida.
